“Swamp County” - a horror movie trailer sound track.
Don't get me wrong, I love Louisiana, especially the Atchafalaya region but there is no better place to set horror. That sense of decay both in the natural world and in a moral sense. Balance that with a rich collage of traditions and cultures, all trying to survive in an inhospitable land.. All with an oppresive brutal history for a backdrop.. I was inspired to write this piece after reading The Boatman's Daughter (Andy Davidson).
“Bunny”. Experimental film piece with unreleased soundtrack. "Bunny is in the Woods. Are you in the Woods?"
You know, the woods just ain't safe. This isn't some superficial meme for horror movies . The deep, dark forests have been a birthing ground of unsettled fears and anxiety since the founding of the US. The woods are “the Other”. THe wilderness of the New England forests were the opposite of religious and colonial order - wild, chaotic, home to the Devil himself. A place where nature ran wild and could not be tamed. From Hawthorne to Lovecraft, the forests spawned an evil of many faces. Today, this legacy takes the form of the almost-supernatural killer in the woods, a refletion of the isolation and terror the early colonists felt so long ago.
“In a Horror of a Landscape” is a slide deck accompanied by an unreleased track. I really enjoy being outside and being in natural surroundings. But sometimes I get stuck - I encounter 'a thin spot" - a crossroads of time and space. Trapped in a landscape: natural or human-intervened. Trapped in space and time, feeling the horror of alienation fomr existence. At once being isolated from everything and caught in the massiveness of all realities.
“My Witch Eyes have turned dark” is from my 2021 album release Qlipothic Cocktail Lounge. I really enjoyed working on this track and it is indicative of where my mind was in 2021.
